I’ve been fuming for weeks, ever since a guy I barely knew in High School, and haven’t talked to in over 50 years, told me on Facebook that I “hated America.”
The Trump administration is actively dismantling American leadership in science, a nihilistic legacy that will stretch for years as long as political ideology supplants evidence as the basis for policy making, oversight, and funding.
Given that this person is obviously a MAGA/Trump guy, it’s a pretty ironic comment. Trump and his sycophants & minions are actively destroying every single thing that DID make America great (or what used to be referred to as “exceptional”): science, research, trust, alliances, cooperation, compassion, charity, assistance, empathy, you name it.
Why do people choose to do this? To “own the libs”?
Just a bit ago, the Trump admin started dismantling the National Science Foundation. Again, why? But apparently, when I ask something like that, or (worse) when I opine how idiotic a move like this is, I “hate America”.
The National Science Board was established in 1950 to guide the governance of the National Science Foundation… It helps guide an agency that operates Antarctic research stations, telescopes, a fleet of research vessels and supports basic science research in laboratories across the United States. The NSF has a long history of supporting technology and research that powers many innovations the world relies on today. The agency helped language-learning app Duolingo get its start. NSF research has also helped evolve technology used in MRIs, cellphones and LASIK eye surgery.”
These are the kinds of things that are un-American, I guess.
